Mental Health Resources In Accra

The mindset that therapy was an unnecessary luxury and not a necessity, and that you’re strong, you wouldn’t need to spend days sitting in a strangers office talking about your feelings is very harmful.

Personally I didn’t grow up as an expressive person, I have always been a secretive “handle it yourself” person. I have friends I trust, friends I usually talk to about my feelings but (I dont know how many of you can relate) it gets to a point in time where you’re tired of bothering people with your issues. Sometimes they just don’t understand. Situations seem pretty straightforward to them, but you know it’s not that simple for you. Their advice means nothing to you, but they mean well and you end up having to sit through an hour of empty advice you know you wont follow. Eventually you learn to swallow your feelings and smile, and reply all “How are you today?” texts with “Great! You?” knowing very well the situation is quite literally the opposite.

Every time I’ve posted about therapists and related topics I’ve gotten lots of questions from people who are interested but are worried about things like how much it costs to see one. Therapy in Accra typically starts from ¢150 - which is not even close to the price I initially thought it was, but may still be expensive for some to see one regularly. You can try spacing out your sessions if you’re on a budget: like maybe once every other week.

For anyone interested, these are a few mental health resources and TRAINED therapists in Accra you should check out.
