Mall Crawl - The Palms Square

A Food Crawl is a “multi-stop investigation of the best restaurants, meals, or specific item on the menu” - Urban Dictionary

I did a Food Crawl at The Palms Square on the Spintex Road (so a Mall Crawl) a few days ago.

Fun Fact, The Palms Square is what many people refer to as “Palace Mall”. It’s next to Palace Hypermarket, they actually share the same building so it’s lumped together with Palace and 80% of the time referred to as Palace.

The building recently got a facelift, and with it came all these beautiful restaurants (if you haven’t been able to guess by now, I’m big on presentation and interior). Pasta, pizza, doner khebas, chinese, burgers...the options are many. Most of these are popular places with branches in other areas, but a few are completely new names.

Currently there are 9 restaurants (listed from the entrance)  :

  • Burger King

  • Don’s Doner

  • Counter Custom Burgers (The)

  • Grill’D

  • Jenny’s Restaurant

  • Oriental Patisserie

  • Second Cup Coffee Company

  • Sweet Roses Chinese Restaurant

  • Zenos Yoghurt Bar

In the main building, and

  • Pizza Hut

outside which brings the number to a total of 10. There’s also a Pizza Hut stand at the entrance.

With the exception of Burger King & Counter Burger which are both mainly burger places, every place has a different focus - for example, if you want Chinese, Sweet Roses should be your destination.

It’s worth noting that none of the restaurants serve alcohol.

In order of arrangement (from the main entrance), these are the 10 restaurants you can find inside The Palms Square, Spintex Road.

*All menus can be found on Zubzz.com/menus

1. Burger King

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 10:00am-10:00pm

Really good burgers and great value meals - budget burgers, meal deals etc. Best place to grab a burger on the go, it’s fast food and the wait time is minimal (if not non-existent).

  • Focus: Burgers On-The-Go

2. Zeno’s Yoghurt Bar

Working Hours: Mon-Sat: 10:00am-10:00pm, Sun: 1:00pm-8:00pm

📞030 294 2518

Zeno’s sells (their own) locally manufactured Greek yoghurt which comes with a wide selection of toppings.

Their yoghurt is one of the best I’ve had, I’ve been a Zeno’s fan since they re-opened in 2015. The bar at Palace has a number of smoothies, including a Make-Your-Own, and my favourite, the breakfast bowl which is a great way to start your day.

  • Focus: Yoghurt, Breakfast

3. Jenny’s Restaurant

Working Hours: Mon-Wed 9:00am-10:30pm

Thur-Sun 9:00am-11:00pm

📞050 853 0538

First time experience with Jenny’s. I feel like banku and tilapia is an unusual choice for a lunch date at the mall, but I just had to - and it was a good choice, the tilapia was HUGE(could have used a bit more salt). That was definitely ¢60 worth of tilapia. The only issue was the very long wait time for the tilapia, but I had been forewarned by my waitress. Worth a second visit  - Going to try the waakye next.

  • Focus: Ghanaian Food

4. Oriental Patisserie

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 8:00am-12:00pm

📞054 588 8888

Oriental is a Lebanese family-owned bakery and restaurant. They have a pretty wide menu, ranging from different types of (of course) Lebanese food to different pastas, steak and seafood. For the shisha lovers, this is your place. They also have a whole section dedicated to different types of pastries and ice cream.

  • Focus: Shisha, Pastries, Pasta

5. Counter Custom Burgers (The)

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 10:00am-10:00pm

📞054 685 5540

The Counter is a custom burger restaurant that has some of the best burgers in Accra. The beef/chicken/whatever protein you choose is always fresh and their buns are just the right level of soft (there is a joke right there). Their menu is pretty limited - it consists of starters, burgers, sandwiches and salads.

  • Focus: Burgers

6. Grill’D

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 9:00am-10:00pm

📞050 571 1233

According to my very nice waitress, Grill’D is a sister branch of Counter Burger (The Accra branches anyway). I can’t say if it’s true, because there’s little to no information available online but it’s believable because they share a drink menu. They deal with the other side of the menu, that’s the rice, noodles etc. Their hot dogs are pretty good and according to my fellow “reviewer”, the fries are top notch. Their prices are decent and could actually be categorized as “budget”.

  • Focus: Hot Dogs, Fries

7. Second Cup Coffee Company

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 6:00am-12:00pm

📞050 880 2020

Second Cup specialises in really good coffee and related beverages. I love their cream cheese bagels. They have salads, sandwiches and pastries available. Their lattes are really nice, I actually risked my health to try a green tea one. It’s a good place to get some work done or meet over coffee.

  • Focus: Coffee, Lattes

8. Sweet Roses Chinese Restaurant

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 11:00am-10:00pm

📞054 432 2888

Chinese at a price that won’t stress your pocket. Sweet Roses has really nice Chinese at an affordable price. SUPER budget friendly, you can get a plate of rice and sauce from just ¢20. The place gets pretty busy around lunch time because really, who doesn’t love good food at a decent price.

  • Focus: Chinese

9. Dons Doner

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 10:00am(breakfast) 11:00am (rest of restaurant) -10:00pm

📞024 760 6666, 050 212 3191

Don’s Doner is a really new restaurant. At the time of this post, it’s been open for under a month so even though I’ve been there, I’m a little reluctant to review it yet.

Basic menu information - They have doners, these cute potato tornadoes, and my favourite, sushi.

They have pretty cool furniture - a car booth and bike themed chairs.

Focus: Doner Kebab, maybe sushi.

10. Pizza Hut

Working Hours: Mon-Sun 10:00am-10:00pm

📞050 002 2334

PIZZAAAAA. That’s all.

  • Focus: Pizza

With the exception of Don’s Doner & Sweet Roses, all of them accept card payments as well.

Which brings me to Fun Fact 2 :

With a ¢400 budget, you can eat at every restaurant there. I’m as surprised as you are.

Good food, good prices, decent service. If you’re ever in or around Spintex and looking for something to eat, pass by the Palms Square and pick a place. If you have any questions about this post or recommendations, don’t forget to send a message!

xx, Zubzz.

Sidenote, my (major) Food Crawl is still coming on this December, and I’ll send out locations and registration details soon.
