Thai Lovers - 5 Favorites In Accra & Kumasi

Thai food is such a flavourful experience. My love for it started 3 years ago and I must say, it’s absolutely great. Easily one of my top 10 cuisines. Their food is centred around rice, noodles, sauces and soups, and is made with lots of spices, sharp flavours like lemon, and peanuts. Lots and lots of peanuts (it’s insane, almost everything has peanuts. If you’re allergic or simply don’t like them, you could just have it made without). A lot are broth based too, so if you have any allergies, ask before you eat. While some meals like their fresh springrolls are considerably healthier than the deep fried ones we usually eat, most are high in calories, so portion control.

If you’re a fan of Thai food or interested in trying it, these are 4 places in Accra and 1 in Kumasi you can get very good Thai food from

1. Zion Thai Restaurant

If you want to introduce someone to Thai food and it’s important for them to like it, Zion Thai’s Pad Thai should be your first option. They have the best Prawn Pad Thai I’ve had so far, and their food is consistently amazing. Big emphasis on “consistently”.

2. Bandex Thai Restaurant

Address: The Road opposite MJ Grand, East Legon

Bandex Thai is an old name in the Thai food community. The place, like most Thai restaurants doubles as a massage parlour. Their food is nice and they give very good portions, especially for their noodle soup. I made the mistake of asking for extra noodles in an order once and for just ¢5 they gave me more than double the usual noodle portion. Learnt my lesson that day, I didnt even eat it because I was already full. The meat in their noodle soup can be a little bland and occasionally the peanut taste is overwhelming so if you’re not a peanut enthusiast, ask for a smaller peanut portion or for them to take it out completely.

3. Pantita Thai Restaurant

Address: Peter Ala Adjetey Ave, Labone

Tel: +233 50 575 5485

Working Hours: Monday-Sunday, 11:00am-10:00pm

No Delivery.

Out of the 5, it has the nicest interior. Their sticky rice is a must-try, especially with a black bean sauce. Their Thai iced tea too. Good portion of good food that doesn’t take too long (but service isn’t always great)

4. Thai House/Krua Thai

Address: Sun Flower Rd, East Legon

Tel: +233 54 470 8085

Working Hours: Monday-Sunday, 9:00am-10:00pm

Delivery available.

Their Thai green iced tea is the most addictive thing ever. Good portions of food, plus you get free herbal teas with each meal. It’s a very quiet, nature-themed space and is great for catching up with a friend over food. The food is budget-friendly and even though they occasionally don’t have the crab, they always have everything else. Friendly staff as well.

5.Bamboo Thai Restaurant

Address: Kwabena Darko Avenue, Kumasi

Tel: +233 20 392 8118

Working Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00am-9:00pm

No delivery.

Their food is nice, averagely priced between ¢30-¢50, and doesn’t take too long to be served. Their number, which is what they give you when you go and ask, and is boldly on their signboard, doesn’t work. According to MTN, it doesn’t even exist lol! Whenever I’m in Kumasi I just take a chance and go, and it has backfired only once (to be fair, it was new years eve).

The place doubles as a massage parlour too.
