For the #FitFam-ers

I’ve been super excited about this review in particular because my waistline has started to suffer again and a #fitfam break is long overdue. One of my biggest problems with healthy eating is and has always been the meal prep - it usually takes too much time and/or I get bored fast with the options available to me.
But great news - I recently found this really neat healthy food business on IG that solves that problem COM-PLE-TELY. It’s called Gofigure, and it provides daily meals to help people meet their fitness goals (with the right lifestyle of course. You don’t get to eat this, eat an extra bowl of rice, drink an entire fishbowl and come and cry that nothing worked😭).

GoFigure was started by certified Nutrition Coach Naaku Duah in September 2017. She built the business from her personal weightloss journey - how inspiring! Her weight struggles began when she was 14 and at a very normal weight. Like most teenagers, she decided she needed to lose weight so she started dieting (i.e. barely eating). Unfortunately, given the way most of our bodies are set up, starvation as a weight loss method usually backfires and her weight ended up fluctuating for years - She went from about 65kg to 90kg by the time she was 22.

When she finally managed to stop the starve-binge-starve cycle, she was in her final year of college in America. It wasn’t easy, but amongst the excess junk was a plethora of enjoyable, balanced, healthy options and when she started picking those ones thats when the weight actually stayed off.
Like I said in my previous #fitfam post, healthy living in Ghana is hard because there are barely any options outside the usual salads. When she moved back to Ghana after college she couldn’t find any of those options anywhere so she started making her own healthy meals and voila! GoFigure was born.

There are 6 different categories and the menus are posted at the beginning of each week on their IG.

There are new menus every week for Monday to Friday and with the exception of GoSalads and GoTreats there are 2 options available for both lunch and dinner. If you’re on the GoLean plan you can request weekend meals too. Meals are ¢30-¢35 and can be bought individually or together - there’s no minimum. Orders must be made by 5:00pm the day before or if you’re ordering for the week, by Sunday.

I’m going on the GoLean plan for 2 weeks because as we aaaall know, the major downside to foodblogging is the expanding waist line. One week down so far! I got both the lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday but I was honestly worried how well I’d follow through (but I have plans that involve a few tight clothes and I needed it so I stuck it out😂).

I weigh myself everyday to see how much difference 2 weeks on GoLean with minimal exercise (skipping, walking, jogging) will make, plus I’ve cut out soda and alcohol. I cancelled even red wine which I always allow when I’m dieting.

So the meals!

Monday

  • Lunch - Beans Stew with Baked Pumpkin Kelewele

  • Dinner - Chicken in garlic and lemon sauce with vegetables

Tuesday

  • Lunch - Wholewheat flatbread stuffed with chicken, pesto and cheese and a garden salad (I got the good carb for today instead of the low carb).

  • Dinner - Roast pork

Wednesday

  • Lunch - Peppered red fish with vegetables

  • Dinner - Zucchini Lasagne

Thursday‬

  • Lunch- Quiche (Eggs baked w/ vegetables)‬

  • Dinner- Chicken skewers ‬

Friday

  • Lunch - Cauliflower rice (Pulsed cauliflower and cabbage) and goat meat in tomato curry sauce

  • Dinner - Creamy Tuscan fish

The meals are pretty good. Some take some getting used to (like the lasagna and cauliflower rice), but the beans, the fish and the chicken khebabs are really solid. I like the portion sizes, I was full each time (you need to eat everything, vegetables included to really be satisfied).

For the weekend meals, they give you meals from the weekly menu.

By the end of the first 5 days I had lost 0.8kg doing nothing but eating healthy. It’s small, but progress for such a short period time. Pretty cool. The exercise part comes next week and I’ll be sure to update this post with the end results. Generally if you follow through, you’ll start to see more permanent results after about a month.

You can order from GoFigure via their IG page orrr you can call or WhatsApp them here.

Sidenote, I got a personal trainer last year, and even though I quit after a while he was really good. I saw changes after the 3rd week. If you’re looking for one, call him (Kobla). Let me tell you now he probably believes in you more than you believe in yourself and you’ll start to get annoyed with him, but he’ll push you and get you to your body goals)
